GAP WALK JOURNALS - IX
Saturday - November 15, 2008
Day - 255
Walking Days - 106 Total GAP miles 1832.7
This was a travel day. Still we began with breakfast at Ruth’s,
and some time of visiting with her before we left. She is really a
delightful lady, and I am so glad we got to spend some time with
her.
But finally we had to head out. Because we have several things
on the computer we hope to accomplish while we are still
traveling, we decided to divide our time up into three days of
travel. This will allow us to get to a motel early in the afternoon
and get settled, and work on things we need to get done. We
know that once we get home there will be so many other things
to do, so the more we can get done while at the motels the
better. We’re due in Lincoln, CA on Monday, November 17.
Leaving Ruth’s place we headed out for Elko, NV. Much of our
time was driving beside the Great Salt Lake. During this time
I called my sister, Lois, in Washington to wish her a happy
belated birthday (it was yesterday). We talked for quite awhile -
until we lost service. She had a birthday celebration that lasted
about a week with lots of things happening. My other sister,
Gail, and her husband, Jerry, were there for most of the week.
That, of course, added to the specialness of the time. Gail and
Jerry are on their way back to Lincoln now to get ready for our
arrival.
We got checked into a motel today at about 2:30 pm. Then Dave
worked on the computer for some time while I condensed some
of my bags to make it easier at our next few places. Hopefully it
will help. Then we switched places - I took over the computer,
and he sat down to read. We stopped for dinner soon after I
started on the computer.
Back to work to finish up the journal, and work on getting
information together for the San Francisco Christmas Hike that I
lead every year. It is coming up on December 9, and I need to
get that information out to people.
The rest of the evening will be spent on this stuff until I’m too
tired and need to get to bed.
