GAP WALK JOURNALS - IX
Sunday - November 9, 2008
Day - 249
Walking Days - 106 Total GAP miles 1832.7
We attended Ernie and Bernie’s church this morning - The New
Covenant Christian Fellowship. After the singing they have a
time of fellowship, then regroup for announcements, and the
message. During this time I was asked to share about the two
walks. Five years ago Sam, Joni, and I had our Thanksgiving
break from the Great American Journey here, and I had shared
briefly about that walk at the time.
Now I shared a little more about that walk, but mostly about the
GAP Walk that finished on October 18. It was neat to share
some of the stories, ever so briefly, about different ones I had
been able to pray for and with.
While I was returning to my seat, Pastor Chris was telling the
audience that God wants to keep using us at whatever stage of
life we’re in. He said something about me being a grandmother,
and I told him I was a great-grandmother. I heard a lot of gasps
and exclamations at that point.
Then Pastor Chris introduced the speaker (one they have once a
month, I think he said). He is Brian Fennimore. His message
was on intercessory prayer, of all things.
I really appreciated
his message. Some of it helped me to understand a bit of what I
had experienced on the walk. I took lots of notes, but I couldn’t
keep up, so I ordered the CD. I can never learn enough about
prayer.
When the service was over we went back to the house via a stop
at Starbucks. Ernie grilled some steaks, and we ate our lunch
and visited. Then Dave and I headed down to the Springs to visit
a cousin of Dave’s that we had met once before. We had never
met Ruth’s husband, Frank, and had not had a lot of time with
Ruth.
Our visit with them was great. They live in a beautiful Victorian
style home with some very interesting features. The house is
over 100 years old. We spent a lot of time talking about the
genealogy that led Dave to find this cousin. And then we talked
about the prayer walks that I’ve done. They have been
missionaries in Ecuador until recently, so we also spent a lot of
time talking about that as well. It was so much fun being with
them and their two “children.” Their children are Penny and
Sherlock - two basset hounds. They do have other children as
well, grown, in college, married, working, and living elsewhere.
After awhile we went to a restaurant called “The Mason Jar” for
dessert. I had the blackberry cobbler - ummm, good. While we
were there, another group came in and sat at the table next to
ours. After awhile I heard someone say, “Lyn.” I ignored it
assuming they were speaking to another Lyn. But the second
time I had to turn to see who else was named Lyn. To my
surprise it was the man whose home we had been in Friday night
with Ernie and Bernice. We had also seen each other at church
this morning.
Finally we went back to Frank and Ruth’s home, had a time of
prayer together, and then we headed back up the mountain to
Ernie and Bernie’s place. We joined them for a little TV, but
when I kept falling asleep Bernice ordered me off to bed.
I
happily obeyed. I was really tired.
