GAP WALK JOURNALS - VIII
Monday - October 27, 2008 Day - 236
Walking Days - 106 Total GAP miles 1832.7
This morning we had a quick breakfast at the motel before we
left, then we headed for Indianapolis. It was noon when we
arrived and met with Clayton. This was such a thrill for me to
meet again the motorcycle man that we had met in Blaine, WA
on May 11, 2003. He was staying at the same motel that we
were when we were starting the Great American Journey (the
walk across America). Clayton came out to see us start our walk
on May 12 at the Canada/USA border Peace Arch. Then
fourteen and a half months later he surprised us by showing up
in Key West, FL when we finished that walk. In between times
he had talked with us by phone from time to time.
Now Dave and I got to see him on his home turf in Indianapolis.
We had a wonderful lunch with him at Shapiro’s Restaurant. I
had a corned beef on rye sandwich that was totally delicious.
We sat in a quiet corner of this large restaurant where we could
visit without a lot of interruption.
Finally we had to say good-bye, and Dave and I headed on to
South Bend, IN. After a stop at Starbucks we drove on straight
through. It was about 5 pm when we arrived at our motel and
checked in.
Once we got our stuff in, we headed out to find the TV station
where I have an interview tomorrow morning. Then to Wal-
Mart to do some shopping, and to a nearby restaurant for some
dinner. Back in our room we took care of chores that needed
doing, and headed for bed as we watched an interview on the
TV station that I will be on tomorrow.
