Washington D.C. miles - 7.6 Cumulative miles 1824.4
Please note: I somehow missed uploading the October 13
Journal onto the website the other day. It is now up, so if any of
you want to go back and read it you can. It is from the day that
Bonny and I toured Washington D.C. and took time to pray for
the city and our leaders there. The journal includes some
interesting facts about some of the places we visited. So read
and enjoy.
By the way, I do plan to continue the online journal from the
end of the walk until Dave and I get home in late November.
The trip home will include several interviews, so we’ll keep you
posted about all that’s happening.
This morning Dave and I slept in a bit since we didn’t get back
from the airport until about 2:30 am. His plane was about two
hours late. We were both pretty exhausted. So this morning I
think I got up at about 7 am, and Dave got up just after 9 am.
After breakfast we four (Bonny, Austin, Dave, and I) piled into
the van and headed for New Carrollton Metro Station. When we
got there Bonny and Austin got out first while Dave and I went
to park the van in the multi-level parking garage. It turned out
that the first five floors were reserved for those with permits. Of
course, we didn’t have a permit, so we had to drive all the way
to the 7th floor before we got to park. Not a problem.
Back over to where Austin and Bonny were waiting. There we
hugged Bonny and thanked her for all she had done for this
journey. Earlier, in the van as we drove over, we had a time of
prayer together to send Bonny on her way.
Now we saw her off on the Peter Pan bus. The bus driver asked
her if she was going to be a trouble-maker. I immediately went
over and told him she was definitely a trouble-maker, and he
should watch her very carefully. We all had a good laugh over
that. How nice that she has a bus driver with a sense of humor.
After seeing her off, the three of us went inside and purchased
our day passes for the metro. Once we boarded, we were off to
Washington. We took the Metro in to Union Station where we
walked from there to the Lincoln Memorial. Well, actually
Austin and I did that. Dave stayed at Union Station for awhile,
then went over to the Supreme Court. Austin and I had already
gone there.
Dave had decided not to try to keep up with Austin and me, but
to do his own thing. So Austin and I continued from the
Supreme Court - after a time of prayer there - on around the
capitol building and down The Mall. We stopped in some of the
Smithsonian Museums - the American Indian Museum, and
Natural History Museum in particular. We took a really quick
tour of each, and had some lunch at the latter.
Then we went past the Washington Monument to the World
War II Memorial, and on to the Lincoln Memorial. Walking
back from there we went to the Viet Nam Memorial. After this
we stopped for a time of prayer especially for our military. Then
we walked back to the Smithsonian Metro Station where we met
Dave, and rode back to New Carrollton and our van.
With one stop at Starbucks, of course, on the way back to
Evelyn and Harri’s we ended our day. Harri prepared a simple,
but good meal, which we enjoyed with some good conversation.
Bonny called to say she had an uneventful trip home, and was
now home safe and sound. After dessert and more conversation,
I headed for bed.
