GAP WALK JOURNALS - VIII
Thursday - October 16, 2008 Day 225 10.7 miles
Total Maryland miles - 89.6 Walking Days - 106
Washington D.C. miles - 4.6 Cumulative miles 1821.4
Our last day of walking in Maryland. What a beautiful day it
was. The weather was great - cloudy and breezy. Toward the
end of the day it even sprinkled slightly - very refreshing.
The three of us prayed together before we left the house this
morning, then again before we started walking, and at one of
our breaks. And of course Austin and I prayed as we walked.
Bonny likes to get in on the prayer times as well, and we enjoy
having that time with her.
And throughout the day Austin and I shared about a variety of
things. One of them being stories from this walk and the walk
across America just to give Austin an idea of some of the things
that happen on these walks.
Our walk started in Burtonsville, and we walked mostly on Old
Columbia Pike for the first half of the day. This took us through
quiet residential areas, and through a wooded area where the
trees were turning color by the small river that wandered
underneath the closed bridge. How nice that they kept the bridge
for walking - just not for driving. Bonny had to drive down Hwy
29 at this point, and at New Hampshire Ave. (650) we had to
come back onto Hwy 29 also.
From this point we had sidewalk the rest of the way. We were
now in Silver Spring, MD, getting close to Washington D.C. It
was busier, but still not bad. When we arrived at 16th Ave. we
were at the end of our route - this was where we enter
Washington D.C. Since there was no place to park here we had
found a place about a half mile away where Bonny could park
and wait for us. And Austin and I walked the extra mileage to
get to her. That is where we will begin our walk on Saturday.
Once we got our gear off and all the data written down, we
headed out to get some lunch. We decided to go to Montgomery
Mall so we could choose from a variety of things. Then
afterwards we went to Starbucks for our chai teas and a coffee
for Bonny. Back to the house to shower and get ready for the
evening. Harri was working on a delightful smelling dinner
which was still a while away.
Later tonight I will drive to Dulles airport to pick up Dave. His
plane is due in at 11:25 pm.
