GAP WALK JOURNALS - VII
Friday - September 19, 2008 Day 198 0.0 miles
Total New York miles - 33.2 Walking Days - 94
Washington D.C. miles - 4.6 Cumulative miles 1688.8
It’s so hard for me to keep seeing the same mileage going up
day after day. But it’s going to continue for awhile, so I hope
you all don’t mind. Right now I am on a break from the walk,
first of all for some time with Dave while he is here for a week
to visit me and see a bit of New York.
Then I am also doing some speaking - the one longer
presentation last night, then some shorter presentations just to
give a brief idea of what this walk is about, and to present a
challenge to others, not to walk but to pray. Then I had another
meeting with a pastor this morning at 10 a m.
After that meeting Dave and I headed to a parking lot near our
motel where we parked and then caught a bus into New York.
We thought about getting tickets for a Broadway Show, but both
felt we could spend our money in better ways when we saw the
price.
Then we rode the subway to Battery Park where we looked at
Castle Clinton where arrivals from other countries were checked
in before Ellis Island became the place for that. After taking a
few pictures and making a purchase or two, we headed off to see
Ground Zero. Construction there is moving right along. If one
didn’t know what had happened at that spot, you might think it
was just another construction place. There are lots of viewpoints
around this place.
After spending some time at Ground Zero we headed back on
the subway for our bus back to Parsippany, NJ. It took us
awhile to find our way back, but we finally succeeded. New
York is a very confusing city. Russ, where are you when we
need you?? (In case you’re wondering, when Russ was with me
he seemed to get around the city with no problem.)
Finally we caught our bus, and when we got back to Parsippany
we took time to eat at a restaurant with a variety of pasta. Then
back to our van and to our motel. We took care of nightly
chores, and then to bed. It’s been a long and tiring day. Now I’m
falling asleep, so I need to get to bed. Good-night all.
