Our day of rest again, and what a great day. For church we chose
(or I should say, God chose for us) to go to The United
Methodist Church in Branford right next to Guilford where we
are staying. It was a 9:30 service. What an awesome welcome
we received. This pastor and the church were incredible to us.
The New Testament Scripture reading picked up where last
week’s left off (the one in Hopeland, MA). That was in Matthew
16:21-28 Then the Old Testament reading was from Exodus
3:1-15. Pastor John Gerlach’s sermon was titled “From Burning
Bush to Burning Heart.” He asked the question “Who am I that I
should do this job that God called me to do?” Our excuses give
too much credit to ‘us’ rather than realizing that in Christ we
can do anything. God assured Moses - and He assures us - “I
will be with you.” It’s not about who we are, but about Whose
we are. God will help us do what He calls us to do. I have
certainly seen that in this walk as I’ve seen God do things that I
never dreamed of. Truly God has been with me on this journey.
I’ve felt His presence in so many ways.
And the songs we sang - Norma and I thoroughly enjoyed the
music. We enjoyed every part of this service, and sensed the
presence of the LORD in this church.
After church we visited for awhile, then went back to our room
to change, gather our laundry, and head off to find the coin
laundry in Madison, CT just north of us. We got the laundry
started, then I left Norma there and I went to get the car washed.
The car wash wasn’t too far away, and they did a nice job. Back
to help fold laundry, then to the diner across the street from our
motel to eat a late lunch. In our room again I got busy with
bookkeeping, e-mails, downloading pictures from my camera to
the computer, washing the magnet signs that go on the van, and
making phone calls that needed to be made.
This always takes longer than I think it will, so now it is 9 p m
already. In a few minutes I’ll fix my Sunday night popcorn
(Norma had hers already) and sit on my bed to watch the last
part of “The Sound of Music” with Norma. It’s been awhile
since I’ve seen that.
