Today was moving day. We slept a little later, then got ready for
the day. Once we got everything inside packed up, I rearranged
the back of the car and began putting our luggage in. Finally we
got it all in, and took off. Believe me that was a job. Of course
we stopped and said good-bye to the wonderful people who own
and run the Belmont Motel in Skowhegan. They have been truly
wonderful people.
I drove today, and we followed our route that we walked to
where we will be walking, and took that all the way into New
Hampshire. We measured the amount we still have in Maine,
and it will take me just a little less than three full days to finish
this state. We only have a couple of days worth to walk in New
Hampshire, so if all goes well we’ll finish Maine and New
Hampshire before our next move. That’s pretty cool.
The route we’ll be taking is beautiful, and I look forward to
doing it.
In Rochester, NH we looked for a motel. The first one we found
seemed to be ideal, but just before we went to look at a room he
realized he had no openings for Saturday. We could be there
until then, but that really doesn’t work out for our situation. We
checked a couple more motels in town - one had only 2nd and 3rd
floor rooms with no elevator - that doesn’t work with all our
stuff. The next one was too small a room - no room for me to
set up an office, and no internet service of any kind.
On to Dover, NH where we found the Comfort Inn. They were
able to give us a pretty reasonable rate, but still high for our
budget. But from Monday to Thursday they serve dinner to the
guests buffet style, as well as a good buffet breakfast. We’ll save
on food for sure. Very nice staff. We’re on the second floor, but
we have an elevator, and they have the carts to put our luggage
on to take in.
Once we got settled in, we went downstairs for the Wednesday
night BB’Q in the “back yard.” We had a choice of hamburgers,
hot dogs, or chicken. We each chose hamburgers. After dinner,
we took laundry to the guest laundry room to wash. I stayed
with the stuff and read my mail that I picked up yesterday while
the clothes washed. Finally done with that, and then we headed
for bed.
