GAP WALK JOURNALS - VI
Friday - August 8, 2008 Day 156 22.7 miles
Total Maine miles - 273.4 Walking Days - 74
Washington D.C. miles - 4.6 Cumulative miles 1278.8
Today was a very wet day - rain, rain, rain - in the morning, but
after lunch it was dry for the first segment, then misty for the
last segment.
I walked through Norridgewock in the morning. This was a cute
little town, but I didn’t spend much time since I was walking
through. I prayed for the places I went through and past as usual
today.
More and more I have been praying my theme verse - Ezekiel
22:30 – “I looked for a man among them to build up the wall,
and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would
not have to destroy it, but I found none.” I have been praying
that each step I take will be a part of building up the wall, and
that my prayers will be filling a part of the gap, and that
Christians across this land will take a stand where they are to
fill other gaps and build up their part of the wall.
I challenge each of you to ask God how He wants to use you to
build your part of the wall and stand in the gap where you are.
I continued walking while Norma drove to different spots to
meet me during the day. After the third segment around New
Sharon, we stopped for lunch. There was nothing right there that
we saw, so we drove on to Farmington where we found a nice
little restaurant. After a good lunch we drove back to where we
had stopped, and I started walking again.
I came to Highway 41/156 on the last segment, and took a look
at my map. Realizing we needed to turn here (I had thought it
was further down), I started to get my phone out to call Norma
when she drove up. I let her know that this was where we had to
turn. Good timing. We both turned and Norma drove on ahead
to find a parking place down the road. This was narrower and no
shoulder, but there was a good sandy area where I could walk
when cars came.
Finally I came to where Norma was - what a perfect spot she
found! It gives me a good spot to start tomorrow, and easy to
find.
With the rain it’s not always easy to make connections with
people that I see. There were a lot of good wavers today. Late in
the day I had a few people who waved before I did. Some of
them seemed real excited - maybe they saw me earlier in the
day.
Norma and I ate dinner at Charriers again. This place has good
food and lots of choices, so we find it very comfortable to go
back here often.
Now we’re back at our room and about ready to get to bed. I
told Norma at the end of the day that she can take charge of my
life for the rest of the time she’s with me.
What I mean by
that is that she can decide how long each segment will be and
how many segments I’ll do. She knows how much mileage I
want to do, so she can decide how to divide it up. Russ took
charge of the segments when he was here, now it’s Norma’s
turn. So stay tuned and I’ll keep you posted on how the days
ahead go. ![]()
