GAP WALK JOURNALS - VI
Tuesday - August 5, 2008 Day 153 15.2 miles
Total Maine miles - 229.1 Walking Days - 72
Washington D.C. miles - 4.6 Cumulative miles 1234.5
Today was purposely a short day because Russ and Connee both
leave tomorrow, and we had stuff to do (like laundry) before
they had to leave.
Connee and I walked the first two segments together, then she
had to give it up - looks like maybe shin splints. Still we had a
great time walking together, talking, and praying. We were ever
so thankful that the weather held up for us today - no rain! By
the way, Connee has come up with a theme song for us for the
state of Maine. I think you’ll figure out the tune soon enough.
The words are: “The rain in Maine will plainly never wane.”
Interesting morning as we drove to our walk start. It took about
45 minutes, I think, but the sky totally changed about three
times. It started out blue and beautiful. Within a few minutes it
was covered in gray clouds, then a few minutes later it was blue
again. This went on the rest of the drive - back and forth. It
made it hard to know whether or not to wear rain gear. But when
we got out of the car it was kind of chilly, so we put our rain
gear on.
It got warmer as we walked, or at least we got warmer, so we
soon took off the rain wear. Now we walked the first two
segments enjoying this last day of walking together. Then after
that second segment, and Connee’s final 9.8 miles, she got into
the van while I walked the next segment. Lots of beautiful
scenery.
Finally I came to the van, and we decided we’d better call it
quits. I had walked just to the edge of the town of Harmony,
ME. It’s probably about two tenths of a mile to the town.
Back to our room to get laundry together. While we three gals
went to do laundry Russ worked on some stuff he needed to get
done. Once the laundry was done we went back to get Russ to
go to dinner. Dinner was at The Empire Grill. Then off to the
Heritage House for dessert - Russ’ favorite, Chocolate Mousse -
he had two of them while Norma and I each had one, and
Connee had a fruit plate. It was all real good, and a great time
together. We will miss both Russ and Connee. The three of us
were a great team, as were the four of us after Norma joined
us.
We went back to the motel and Russ and Connee finished
packing. I showered, and talked with my sister, then journaled
while Norma and I watched a movie. We all said good-night and
headed for bed.
