“Rain, rain go away. Come again some other day.” - like after
we leave this area.
Ahh, but that was not to be - at least not
for today.
Connee and I walked our first three segments with clouds, but
no rain. Our morning was beautiful. We prayed and talked as we
walked, and had a great time. I was feeling pretty good, though
still a little shaky, but as the morning wore on I was feeling
better. Beautiful scenery met our eyes at every turn. In the
distance to our left we saw the outline of a mountain range.
Then segment three ended and I said it was time for lunch. Now
throughout the morning Norma was going through “intensive
training” with Russ, learning the ropes of dropping us off,
checking on us part way through, and moving to the end of the
segment to await our arrival. She learned how to use the GPS in
a variety of ways, and many other things. I think they both had a
lot of fun. With us in the car now waiting to go to lunch Norma
was instructed to find us a lunch spot using the GPS. She came
up with the Bear’s Den not far away, and off we went.
We had delicious meals there, but part way through I had to go
outside for fresh air. My insides still aren’t working quite right,
so as they twisted and turned I began to feel like I was going to
pass out. Standing up and going outside was the best thing and
soon I was ok again.
Back to our walk spot to sit and rest a little more in the van. Oh,
once we went to lunch the rain started, but didn’t last. Then as
we got ready to start walking it began to rain again. We waited a
bit, then finished gearing up and headed out. As we walked
down the street it began to rain again, then just opened up and
poured buckets on us. Wow!
One lady and little boy stopped to offer us a ride. They had seen
us as they went past one way, stopped up the road and cleared a
space for us to ride, then came back to offer us a ride. We told
them what we were doing, thanked them profusely, but turned
down the ride. What a nice gesture, and how we do appreciate
the offer of a ride. A few minutes later she came back past us
and honked and waved. Russ told us she stopped after talking to
us and told he and Norma that we were on our way and doing
fine - how sweet.
When we arrived where Russ and Norma were waiting at the
end of segment four, we found them at Low’s Covered Bridge.
Here we took time to get pictures of the four of us and walk
across it and back. What fun.
I wanted to do one more segment, but Connee finished her
walking at the end of segment four with 18.7 miles. I then
walked on through more rain (and another ride offer from
another very nice lady) to the far end of the town of
Guilford, where I met the threesome at Harlow Pond Rd. and
Highway 150. It was a good walk and I enjoyed it.
Then we drove back to our motel a different route, seeing still
more of this beautiful, but wet country. We had shopping to do,
then picked up dinner at Taco Bell/KFC, ate in our room, and
took care of evening chores. I had a good visit with Joni on the
phone, journaled, and called Dave, then finally to bed. Great
day!
