GAP WALK JOURNALS - V
Monday - July 28, 2008 Day 145 31.1 miles
Total Maine miles - 174.2 Walking Days - 70
Washington D.C. miles - 4.6 Cumulative miles 1179.6
Today was a great day, though not as much mileage as Saturday.
However, I’m thinking that is probably a one time thing, so lest
you expect to see 35 miles up there very often, I wanted to set
the record straight that it is a one time thing.
Before I forget to tell you let me put in Connee’s mileage here.
She did 20.7 miles today - with blisters on the balls of her feet.
Ouch! She walked the first three segments with me, then joined
me again on the sixth segment. The other segments she stayed in
the van with Russ. It’s really been fun having Connee along. She
gets to spend some time with each of us alone as well as time
with us both together.
As we started walking Connee and I had a time of prayer. This
morning I read from Proverbs 8 about Wisdom calling in the
streets for all to listen to her. She called at the crossroads, and at
the city gates. I thought this was very appropriate for our
journey and used it in my prayers a lot today. As I prayed for
each town and community we passed through I prayed that the
people would listen to Wisdom calling and turn from the ways
of the world. I also prayed this for our nations leaders.
Another thing I have been praying as I use the key verse for this
GAP Walk - “I looked for a man among them who would build
up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land
so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.” Ezekiel
22:30
I am praying that every step I take will help to build up a part of
the wall for our nation, and that my prayers will fill in the gap
where I am. Then I pray that Christians all over this land will
stand in the gap where they are, building the wall in their part of
the land, and stand in the gap with their prayers. As you read
this I am praying for you to do your part.
We walked through Manawankeag, and stopped at a small
grocery store for a restroom stop. The clerk and I got to talk for
awhile, and she wished us well as we walked off. Soon after
Manawankeag we went through Winn, then came to Lincoln. In
Lincoln we turned off of Highway 2 and onto Highway 116.
This took us down a beautiful road alongside the Penobscot
River. It also took us past a sawmill, a chip mill, and the power
plant. All of these things bring out the trucks, so it was very
busy for awhile.
Once past all of these we found ourselves walking along a
forested area with periodic views of the river. It was very
beautiful. The river flows swiftly and every so often an inlet
comes near the road with beautiful plants and foliage on islands.
This part of the road was gravel. Finally we turned off of this
and headed down Howland Road, under I-95 and to where Russ
waited for us at the end of the day.
We then drove into Lincoln to the Wal-Mart to do some
shopping, and ate dinner at a nice restaurant there. Then the
drive back to our motel in the dark. As I type this we are
enjoying a fantastic light show - compliments of God. We had
thunder and lightning all last night, and now again tonight. But
where we are walking has been free of storms, and oh such nice
weather.
Well, I’m off to bed.
