GAP WALK JOURNALS - V
Thursday - July 24, 2008 Day 141 27.1 miles
Total Maine miles - 80.1 Walking Days - 67
Washington D.C. miles - 4.6 Cumulative miles 1085.5
Well, I did it again - broke another of my records.
Connee started with me, and did four segments totaling 17.7
miles. When we started walking it was raining, so we put on
rain gear. Connee has been wearing Russ’ jacket for rain, and
it is brown in color. We are so set on seeing moose, and
decided that Connee looks like a moose with this jacket on, and
her arms up. So I got a picture of our moose. She looked
really cute.
The rain came off and on all day.
We met Bill, a Viet Nam vet, and had a delightful talk with him,
then continued on our way. On our fourth segment we walked
into Ashland, and we stopped at a small convenience store that
we had been to a few times. We had gotten to know the owner,
and the gal working in there. That was pretty neat. They were
very nice. This time we told them it would be our last time in, so
we said good-bye.
Soon we met up with Russ, and we stopped to eat lunch where
he was parked. It was now that Connee stayed with him, and I
walked on. She and I had kept up a good speed all morning, and
I continued at that pace.
During the afternoon it continued to rain off and on, but it was
plenty warm. I walked up and down a few hills, but only one
that was very bad, and even it wasn’t all that bad. Russ and
Connee drove past me as I climbed this one, then near the top a
family in their front yard began to ask me questions. Theresa
had seen me earlier, and felt sure I would need something to
drink by now. I was happy to accept a glass of ice water, which
Laurie got for me. Keith and a friend were also out there
This family had gotten a new car (new for them) today, and
were out looking it over. It was a 2003 Chrysler Town and
Country, which I recognized since I am quite familiar with the
Town and Country (Snow White was a Town and Country, and
so is Lady Mag). It’s a great car.
I left them after getting their picture out by their gazebo, and
continued walking for a few more miles. More rain, lots of good
waves from people, and several hills, but not bad. Russ and
Connee were waiting at a Rest Area. In fact Russ was walking
toward me just short of where they were waiting. He said I was
a minute late, so he had to come find me.
He also told me I
had now walked 27.1 miles. Connee clapped for me as I walked
to the car. I felt great, and if it hadn’t been so late I probably
could have walked more.
We drove to Brenda’s Restaurant and ate dinner, got gas in the
car, and went back to our motel. After showers and journaling
and phoning Dave, I headed to bed. Russ and Connee were
doing a crossword puzzle, and had to finish it before bed.
I
didn’t wait for them - I need all the sleep I can get. Great day!!
